Back to Wall Toilets

The back-to-wall toilet pan remains visible and floor-standing, while the cistern and associated plumbing are concealed behind the finished surface or inside a suitable WC furniture unit. The toilet is then flushed using the control provided by the compatible cistern system.

Because back-to-wall toilets and concealed cisterns can have different connection and compatibility requirements, check the individual product specifications before combining components. For compatible wall-mounted controls, browse our flush plates.

A back-to-wall toilet pan is the visible floor-standing WC. The WC unit is furniture positioned behind the pan to conceal the cistern, while a concealed cistern is the flushing component hidden behind the furniture, boxing or wall installation.

These can be supplied separately depending on the product. If you want the toilet and furniture supplied as a coordinated combination, browse our water closet unit and toilet sets. If you only require the furniture, see our WC units.

The main difference is the position of the cistern. A back-to-wall WC hides the cistern behind furniture, boxing or another suitable installation surface, while a close-coupled toilet normally has a visible cistern mounted directly behind and above the pan.

If you prefer a toilet where the cistern remains visible and forms part of the WC assembly, browse our close-coupled toilets.

A back-to-wall toilet is floor-standing, whereas a wall-hung toilet is mounted above the floor using a suitable concealed support frame. Both styles can use concealed cistern systems, but the pan support and installation requirements are different.

For a wall-mounted alternative, browse our wall-hung toilets. You can also explore toilet seats or compare other WC styles in the complete toilets range.
