What Is an L-Shaped Bath?

An L-shaped bath is a shower bath with a wider, square-cornered end — the angular profile that gives this style its name. The squared-off wider end distinguishes L-shaped baths from P-shaped baths, which have a curved, rounded wider end. The wider showering section typically measures 800–850mm, providing comfortable standing room for showering with a screen above. L-shaped baths fit the same alcove or three-wall recess as a standard bath of the same length — the wider showering end sits at the tap end and does not change the overall room footprint.

Left-Hand vs Right-Hand, and What Screen to Use

The hand refers to which side the wider showering end sits on when you stand at the foot of the bath and face the tap wall: left-hand means the wider end is on your left; right-hand means it is on your right. Measure which side of the alcove the taps will be on before ordering. L-shaped baths require a straight-sided L-shaped bath shower screen — not a curved P-shaped screen. When ordering a screen, ensure the screen hand matches the bath hand. To complete the installation, pair with a bath shower screen, a side bath panel and bath taps.
