This section covers the components you need to maintain, repair or upgrade an existing tap. Aerators fit onto the spout end and regulate water flow, breaking the stream into fine droplets to reduce splashing — most standard aerators use a 24 mm thread, though some spouts take 22 mm or 28 mm fittings. Flow restrictors sit inside the aerator housing and can reduce water usage without affecting pressure at the outlet. Cartridges are the internal valve that controls hot and cold water mixing; when a tap starts dripping or becomes stiff to turn, a worn cartridge is almost always the cause. You'll also find tap handles, diverters and O-rings for sealing.
Replacing a cartridge or aerator is one of the more straightforward DIY plumbing tasks. To find the right replacement, check the tap brand and model number — this is often stamped on the cartridge itself or printed on the original packaging. For aerators, unscrew the existing fitting and check the thread size (M24, M22 or M28) before ordering, as sizing is not consistent across brands. If you're unsure which part you need, take a clear photo of the component and get in touch — our team can help identify the correct part. Browse our full range of Basin Mixer Taps or Kitchen Taps if a full tap replacement makes more sense.
