What Is a Flush Plate and How Does It Work?

A flush plate — also called a flush button or actuator plate — is the panel mounted on the wall over a concealed cistern that triggers the toilet flush. Pressing it activates a mechanical or pneumatic link to the cistern's flush valve, releasing water into the pan. Bathroom Republic stocks 29 flush plates in chrome, matte black and brushed brass, in single-flush and dual-flush configurations.

Dual-flush plates have two buttons or zones — a half flush (typically 3 litres) for liquid waste and a full flush (typically 6 litres) for solid waste, conforming to UK water regulations. Flush plates mount on a carrier frame; fixing centres vary by manufacturer so check frame compatibility before ordering. Most plates in this range suit standard 500×200mm and 600×200mm apertures.
