What Does a Shower Enclosure Arm Do?
A shower enclosure arm is a lateral support bar that connects a fixed glass panel to the wall. Where a hinged door has a frame to keep it rigid, a frameless or walk-in glass panel stands without a surrounding frame and relies on one or more support arms to prevent flex and movement at the top of the panel. The arm clamps to the glass at one end and anchors to a wall stud or tiled surface at the other, typically at a height of 1500–1800mm from the tray. Bathroom Republic stocks 3 shower enclosure arms in chrome and matt black finishes.
When Do You Need a Support Arm?
If you are fitting a frameless walk-in glass panel or a fixed wet room screen without a surrounding frame, a support arm is required — the panel cannot stand safely without lateral bracing. Hinged, bi-fold and sliding door enclosures do not typically need separate support arms as the frame itself provides the required rigidity. Check the fitting instructions for your specific panel before ordering.
