What Is a Wall-Mounted Basin?

A wall-mounted basin is fixed directly to the wall rather than resting on a pedestal or sitting on a vanity unit counter. Because there is no pedestal column below, the floor beneath the basin is completely clear — making the room feel more open and making floor cleaning much easier. The waste trap and supply pipes either run inside the wall behind a concealed bottle trap, or sit exposed below the basin with a chrome, matt black or brushed gold trap and flexi-pipes to match the tap finish. Wall-mounted basins come in compact widths from around 360 mm for cloakrooms and en-suites, up to standard widths of 500–600 mm for main bathrooms. Most models offer one or three tap holes.

Installation and What to Check

Wall-mounted basins must fix into a load-bearing wall or a timber-framed support noggin built into a stud wall — the basin and user's weight transfers entirely through the wall fixings.
