Fittings, Finishes and What to Check Before Buying

Kitchen tap hole configurations vary by sink type: a single lever mixer fits through one central hole (typically 35mm in diameter); a twin lever three-piece set requires two or three holes at standard centres. Pull-out aerator taps also mount through a single hole but need adequate clearance around the spout base for the retractable hose to extend and retract freely. Instant hot water taps dispense water at around 98°C and require a dedicated under-sink boiler tank and a separate cold water feed — check that your sink cabinet has sufficient space before ordering. Most kitchen tap spouts are taller and have a longer reach than basin taps; compare the spout height and reach against your sink bowl depth before purchasing to avoid splashing. If your sink deck has unused tap holes, cover them with a matching blanking plate.
