What Is a Shower Bath?

A shower bath is a bath with a wider end — typically 800–900mm wide at the showering position compared with 700–750mm for a standard bath. This wider end provides enough standing room for showering, so both functions share the same floor footprint. L-shaped shower baths have a squared-off wider end creating a sharp angular profile; tapered shower baths narrow gradually from the wider showering end down to a standard width at the foot. Both types are used with a bath shower screen rather than a full shower enclosure — the screen folds or pivots to contain water during showering and opens flat for bathing. Left-Hand vs Right-Hand — Which Do You Need?

Shower baths come in left-hand and right-hand configurations. The hand refers to which side the wider showering end sits on when you stand at the foot of the bath and face towards the tap wall: left-hand means the shower end is on your left, right-hand means it is on your right. Before ordering, identify which wall the taps will be on and which direction the bath faces in the room — this determines the correct hand.
