What a Pivot Shower Door Panel Does

A pivot shower door panel has a single sheet of glass that rotates on a fixed hinge near one vertical edge of the frame. The full panel swings outward when opened, creating the widest possible entry gap of any shower door mechanism — the entire panel width becomes the entry opening. Because the door swings into the bathroom, you need clear floor space in front of the shower to open it fully. When Pivot Works — and When It Doesn't

Pivot doors suit alcove installations (between two walls) with open bathroom floor space in front of the shower. They are not suited to bathrooms where a toilet, basin or wall sits within the arc of the outward swing. The fixed hinge has fewer moving components than a sliding track or bi-fold mechanism. For bathrooms where outward clearance is limited, sliding shower doors or bi-fold shower doors are more practical choices.
