Chrome vs Brushed Chrome

Chrome is an electroplated finish applied over the base metal — typically steel or brass for radiators — producing a bright, reflective, mirror-like surface. It is distinct from brushed chrome or brushed nickel, which have the same metallic composition but are given a directional grain finish that reduces reflectivity and softens the appearance. Standard polished chrome is the most commonly stocked finish for traditional-style heated towel rails in the UK, where it matches most chrome bath and basin taps, waste fittings and shower components. Polished chrome can show fingermarks and water spots more readily than matt or brushed finishes — a consideration in high-use bathrooms.
