What Are Column Radiators?

Column radiators take their name from the multiple vertical columns of water tubes that run between a top and bottom header — a design that originated in the Victorian era and is still produced today for both period and contemporary interiors. The original cast iron column radiator has largely been replaced by cast aluminium and pressed steel equivalents, which are lighter, heat up more quickly and are considerably easier to install without specialist support. A column radiator's heat output is determined by the number of columns, the number of sections along its width, and the height — more sections and columns mean a higher BTU output. Because they project further from the wall than a flat panel radiator, they are particularly effective in rooms with high ceilings and larger volumes of air to heat.

Sizes, Columns and Finishes

Column radiators in this range are available as 2-column, 3-column and 4-column designs, in both vertical and horizontal orientations. Heights range from 300 mm to 1800 mm, and widths are determined by the number of sections. Finishes include white and anthracite, with some ranges available in matt black and metallic tones. Plumbed (central heating), electric and dual fuel configurations are available across the range — valves are sold separately and are not included.
