How a Bidet Douche Works

A bidet douche — also called a bidet spray or shattaf — is a hand-held spray head on a flexible hose, mounted beside the WC on a wall bracket or holder. It connects to the existing cold water supply at the toilet cistern or isolation valve and delivers a directed stream of water for personal cleansing. Most models include a trigger or lever valve on the spray head to control flow, with water pressure determined by the mains supply. What to Consider When Choosing

The main variables between models are finish, hose length and flow control type — trigger grip or thumb button. Finish should match the other hardware in the WC: chrome for standard chrome brassware, matt black for dark-finish schemes, and brushed brass for warm-toned rooms with matching taps and accessories. A longer hose (typically 120cm or more) gives more reach and is easier to use without repositioning.
