What Is a Basin Mixer Tap?
A basin mixer tap combines hot and cold water through a single spout, controlled by one lever or a pair of crosshead handles, and fits through a single tap hole in the basin — typically 35–38mm in diameter. This is the standard configuration for modern washbasins, wall-hung basins and countertop basins. If your basin has two separate holes, a pillar tap set is the correct fit; for three holes, a three-piece deck set with a separate spout and two handles is needed. Bathroom Republic stocks 177 basin mixer taps across mono, compact, high-rise, wall-mounted and waterfall styles. Chrome, matt black, brushed brass, brushed gold and brushed nickel finishes are available across contemporary single-lever designs and traditional crosshead styles.
Styles, Finishes and What to Check Before Buying
Mono mixer taps are the most common type — a single-spout lever tap that lifts and rotates to control flow and temperature. Waterfall taps have a wide, open spout that delivers a sheet of water at higher flow rates. Compact taps have a shorter reach and lower body height suited to smaller or cloakroom basins. High-rise mono mixers have a taller body for use above countertop and vessel basins where the rim sits high above the worktop. For basins with two tap holes, browse twin basin taps. For taps that mount through the wall above the basin rather than through the basin itself, see wall mounted basin taps. Always check the minimum water pressure specification before purchasing — waterfall and high-rise designs typically require higher inlet pressure than standard mono mixers.
