How an Instant Hot Water Tap Works
An instant hot water tap — also called a boiling water tap — dispenses water at around 98°C on demand from a dedicated under-sink boiler tank. Most models in this range are 3-in-1 taps: a single spout delivers boiling water, regular hot water and cold water, replacing both your standard kitchen mixer tap and the kettle. The tank heats and holds water at near-boiling temperature continuously, so hot water is available the moment you turn the handle — no waiting for a kettle cycle. All models include a safety interlock and self-closing handle on the boiling water function to prevent accidental scalding.
Installation, Filters and What to Check
Each tap requires a compatible under-sink boiler unit — tank capacity typically ranges from 1.5 to 4 litres, enough for one to several cups per draw. An optional inline water filter can be added to improve taste and reduce limescale build-up in the tank, extending service life. Tank units need a mains cold water connection and a 13A socket inside the sink cabinet. For other kitchen tap styles, browse Kitchen Taps.
