Slotted vs Unslotted Waste — Which Do You Need?

A slotted waste has a cut-out in the side of the waste body that connects to the basin's built-in overflow channel, allowing water to drain safely if the basin fills too high — use a slotted waste with any basin that has an overflow. An unslotted waste has no cut-out and is used with basins that have no overflow, typically countertop and vessel basins where the overflow is omitted by design.
