Close Coupled Toilets

The cistern is positioned immediately behind and above the pan, with the flushing mechanism contained inside the visible cistern. Water is released from the cistern into the toilet pan when the flush is operated.

Because the cistern and pan form one coordinated toilet configuration, installation differs from concealed-cistern systems used with back-to-wall or wall-hung toilets.

A close-coupled toilet has a visible cistern mounted directly behind the pan. A back-to-wall toilet uses a floor-standing pan but hides the cistern behind bathroom furniture, boxing or another suitable installation surface.

Close-coupled toilets can be available in different configurations depending on the range. Rimless designs alter the internal shape of the pan, compact models can reduce overall projection, and comfort-height toilets position the seat higher than many standard-height models.
