What Is a Hinged Bath Screen?

A hinged bath screen is a single glass panel fitted at the showering end of a bath, with a hinge that allows the panel to swing open and closed. This makes the bath easier to step into and out of compared to a fixed panel — particularly useful in smaller bathrooms where stepping over the rim without a handhold is awkward. Hinged screens are available in inward-opening and outward-opening configurations: inward-opening screens fold over the bath itself, while outward-opening screens swing into the bathroom space. Panels in this range are made from toughened safety glass, available in clear, smoked and frosted finishes depending on the model. Hinge Direction, Sizing and Fitting

The key decision when choosing a hinged bath screen is the direction the panel opens. If the screen opens outward, allow at least 600mm of clear floor space beyond the bath end for the panel to swing freely. If it opens inward over the bath, check the bath is wide enough for the panel to clear the far rim without obstruction. Panel widths run from approximately 700mm to 900mm to fit standard UK bath end openings; heights from 1350mm to 1500mm.
