What Is a Waterfall Tap?

A waterfall tap has a wide, flat or channel-shaped spout that delivers water as a broad sheet rather than a conventional aerated stream. The visual effect comes from the spout geometry — water spreads horizontally across the width of the opening and flows down in a thin curtain, producing a quieter, smoother output than a standard mono mixer. Waterfall taps are available in both basin and bath filler formats. Basin waterfall taps typically fit through a single 35mm tap hole and are well-suited to countertop and vessel basins where the flow is clearly visible above the bowl. Bath waterfall fillers mount through a standard deck tap hole on the bath rim and deliver a faster fill rate than a basin tap due to the higher flow volume required to fill a bath.

Water Pressure, Finishes and What to Check Before Buying

Waterfall taps generally require a minimum water pressure of 0.2 bar to produce the sheet-flow effect — at lower pressures, water tends to flow as a narrow trickle along the centre of the spout rather than spreading across the full opening. Always check the minimum pressure requirement in the product spec before ordering. Many waterfall basin taps in this range feature a flat rectangular spout with an LED temperature indicator (blue for cold, red for hot), which is a visual feature rather than a functional one.
