The panels overlap in the centre when closed and slide behind each other to create the opening. Sliding Door vs Bi-Fold and Pivot Door Enclosures

Bi-fold doors fold inward in two panels when opened — they project slightly into the shower interior but need no external clearance in front. Pivot doors open on a fixed hinge and swing outward, requiring clear floor space in front of the shower. Sliding doors need neither: no clearance inside the shower and no clearance outside it.
