How Bi-Fold Shower Enclosures Work

A bi-fold shower door is divided into two panels joined by a central hinge. When you open the shower, the outer panel folds inward toward the inner panel — the base of the outer panel pivots along a bottom track at the same time. The door collapses into a Z-fold shape that sits inside the shower opening, so no clearance is needed outside the enclosure at all. When to Choose Bi-Fold Over Sliding or Pivot

Bi-fold doors need no external clearance — unlike pivot doors, which swing outward and require open floor space in front of the shower. Bi-fold doors do fold slightly into the shower interior when open (typically 100–150mm of projection), which reduces the available showering space slightly compared to a sliding door. For narrow enclosures (600mm–700mm wide) or alcove installations where a sliding track would reduce the internal width, bi-fold is often the better option.
